Livestock husbandry is an intricate system where animal, soil, crop, capital, energy and nutrients are interconnected in many ways. Pulling one string might have consequences elsewhere - in unexpected places. Combining demands of animal and farmer with demands of consumers and environment can only be successful if we have the courage to drop our standard ways of thinking and acting.

In our projects we develop design concepts that meet the needs of the main actors involved. They serve as examples of how crucial turnarounds in thinking and acting can be translated into inspiring images of animal husbandry. Experiments in practice are important to demonstrate if and how economic requirements can go hand in hand with the environment and animal welfare and they reveal practical issues that need to be resolved.
